Applications submitted in person are accepted during our walk in hours Monday through Friday 8am to 10am. Effective March 8, 2011, applications submitted in person will require a minimum of 5 business days for processing. Passports will not be returned until processing is completed. Processing times for mail in applications vary, please allow at least four weeks for processing. Applicants who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States may apply for their study permits at a port of entry. For mail in applications, please allow at least 4 weeks for processing.
Study permit renewals and extensions must be obtained within Canada at the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta.

As you can see, if your students plan to apply for a TRV in person, the processing time is now a minimum 24 hours. This means that if your students travel to Seattle to apply for their entry visa, they will now need to arrange an additional night of accommodation while they wait for their application to be processed.
For a study permit, the processing time is now 5 business days (1 week). Therefore, when applying for a new study permit in Seattle, students would need to arrange for one week's worth of accommodation.
For applications sent by mail, the processing times have not changed. When mailing applications, students should allow a minimum of 4 weeks for processing (ie. students must not make any plans to travel outside Canada for at least 4 weeks after they mail their documents to the consulate).
Please visit the Seattle Consulate website at http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/seattle/imm/SEATL_applying.aspx?lang=eng for more information.
Thank you very much for your attention.
